VOORHEESVILLE – Richard J. (Bud) Bailey of Voorheesville passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at home. Born in Albany, on November 21, 1923, he was the son of the late William and Esther Bailey. He was educated in Albany and Bethlehem Schools, and served his country during World War II as a Tech Sergeant with the 3809th Truck Company attached to the 82nd Airborne, taking part in the Normandy Landings (Utah Beach). He later earned several commendations, including the Bronze Star. Returning home after the war, he and his family owned and operated Bailey's Garage in Delmar until his retirement in 1985. His service to the community continued as a trustee for the Village of Voorheesville, its Mayor from 1964 to 1970, a fire dept. and ambulance squad volunteer, and a proud member of the Voorheesville American Legion Post #1493 for 55 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen J. Bailey; his sons, Richard (the late Mary Lou), John (Georgiann) and Paul; his grandchildren, Richard, Bradley, Sara and Ryan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Robert.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. John's St. Ann's Church (south end). There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's St. Ann's Church Building Fund, 88 Fourth Avenue, Albany, NY 12202 in memory of Richard J. Bailey.
