GUILDERLAND - Richard C. Roman, 70, died peacefully Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his home.
Born November 12, 1943 in Manhattan, New York, he was the only son of the late NYS Assemblyman Samuel Roman and Beatrice Adler. As a child, Richard attended school at the prestigious Lakemont Academy in upstate New York, and later received a Baccalaureate degree from Wagner College in Staten Island, with concentrations in psychology and political science. After college, he attended Brooklyn Law School, in Brooklyn, New York.
Raised in Washington Heights, Richard also lived in Spring Valley, Yonkers, and Staten Island, New York before settling in Guilderland, NY in 1984.
Richard worked many varied and interesting jobs in his early career including working as a bank teller, a wholesale meat distributor, founding a successful medical referral business, and occupying other management related positions prior to working for the State of New York. Richard retired from the State in 2005 from the NYS Public Service Commission as a Senior Compliance Officer after 30 years of distinguished service. Richard was also an avid reader, with a particular passion for history, political science, economics, geography, government, law, and music throughout his life.
Married for 48 years, Richard was a dedicated and loving husband to Judith E. Roman (Hall), whom he truly cherished. A loving son, father and grandfather, Richard's life was dedicated to enjoying time with, cherishing, and supporting his family. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Marc S. Roman and his wife, Marianne of Altamont; his daughter, Amy L. Harbeck of Feura Bush; and seven grandchildren: Rachael Roman, Jonathan Roman, Samuel Roman, Olivia Roman, Darian Harbeck, Jimmy Harbeck, and Jacob Harbeck. He is also predeceased by his loving sister, Marion Maeder (Roman) of Tampa, Florida. Richard was also part of a loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, all of whom, along with his immediate family, will deeply miss his wisdom, humor, laughter, comfort, and always-loving and considerate heart.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8pm Monday, April 28, 2014 at the New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A ceremony commemorating Richard's life will also be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, by the Rabbi Monte Sugarman and family members.
