ALBANY – Richard D. Harlan, 88, of Albany, passed away on Wednesday January 26, 2011 at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Elmira, NY and was the son of the late George and Rebecca Jamison Harlan. Dick served in the European Theatre, with the US Army artillery division, during WWII. He was a mail handler with the US Postal Service in Albany for many years. Dick enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren during his many years of retirement.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Angela Galea Harlan; his devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Richard J. Harlan of Albany and Robert J. and Gail Harlan of Niskayuna. He is the brother of Jack (Ruth ) Harlan, Bonnie Gibson and Thomas Harlan. He is the cherished grandfather of Dean (Jennifer) Harlan and Leigh Harlan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. in Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 301 Hackett Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Richard D. Harlan.
