SCHENECTADY – Richard R. Damon, 67, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 1, 2005, after a 3 year courageous battle with cancer.
Richard was born in Schenectady on January 5, 1938. He was the son of the late Frederick and Bertha (Reed) Damon. He lived in Scotia and Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School.
Richard served in the Army Reserve and was employed at Lyons Camera Store for 8 years. He was a machine operator for General Electric for over 23 years, then continued his employment with the new department owners – Insulating Materials, Inc. and Vonroll Isola, Inc. for 10 years. He retired January 1998.
As a member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia he served as Elder, Deacon and Treasurer. He was also a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed golf, bowling and tracing his family history. For 32 years he loved traveling in recreational vehicles and was a member of FMCA.
Richard is survived by his family who loved him dearly, including his beloved wife of 45 years and best friend, Jacquelyn Carr Damon. Beloved children, Michael Damon of Las Vegas, NV, Debra Damon-Rounds of Scotia and Rick Damon and his wife, Jolene of Lansingburgh. Cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Sean Goodspeed, Jacob, Isabella and John Damon, step grandson, Benjamin Marcus. Dear sister, Zaia Damon of Schenectady. Dear mother-in-law, Mildred Cydylo of Schenectady. Sister-in-law, Nancy Schultz and her husband, Fred. Step brother-in-law, Michael Cydylo (Rae Marie DeLella). Niece Lorie Leguire and several cousins, niece and nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8 N. Church St. in Schenectady. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The National Prostate Cancer Coalition, 1154 15th St. NW, Washington, DC 20005 in memory of Richard R. Damon.
