Richard (Dick)Hall Allyn

ALBANY - Richard (Dick) Hall Allyn, 81, entered into eternal life on Sunday, August 19, 2012. Dick was born on August 11, 1931 in Evansville, Indiana and was the son of the late Harold and Anna Maud (Hall) Allyn. He was a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) majoring in mathematics and history and a brother of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. In 1954 Dick married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Ann Bell, after accepting a commission in the U.S. Navy. He was a Naval Aviator and flight instructor during his service to his country during the Korean War and continued his military service through 1977. He retired as Lt. Commander.
Dick cared deeply about his vocation as an executive for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years. He held all the important positions in the organization in several councils across the country; his service culminated in a position on the National Staff Northeast Region. He was devoted to his faith and served his community for many years as an active church council member and treasurer of First Lutheran Church in Albany.
Dick's personal interests were fishing, hunting and history; he was an avid collector. Dick and Marilyn, married over 54 years, were always together and they both enjoyed traveling, antiquing and spending time with their family. She passed away on March 4, 2009.
Richard Allyn is survived by his son, William Clay Allyn and his wife Brenda of Westminster, MD; his daughters, M. Lizabeth Allyn and her partner Carol Veigle of Seven Stars, PA and Rebecca Ann (Allyn) Maguire and her husband Chuck of Richmond, VA; his four grandchildren, Steven, Meagan, Ryan and LeeAnna. His brothers preceded him in death, William Leonard and Harold Junior Allyn, who was killed in action near the end of WWII.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 181 Western Ave., Albany. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church, 646 State St., Albany, NY 12203 in memory of Richard Hall Allyn.
