SARATOGA SPRINGS – Richard "Dick" Winter, 85, of Saratoga lost his battle with Parkinson's disease and died peacefully at the Wesley Health Care Center on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 with his beloved wife, Betty and daughter, Karen by his side.
Dick was the devoted father of Karen (Pete) Sand of Saratoga Springs, grandfather of Todd Sand of Fairfield, CT and Ryan Sand of Saratoga.
Dick was born in Schenectady, NY in 1927. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Julia Winter of Carmen, his brother, Raymond Winter of Albany and his sister, Joan Davis of Schenectady. He graduated from Draper High School in 1944. In 1951 he was inducted into the Army and served until 1953 during the Korean War. He married Betty Sibel in 1954. They have had 58 wonderful years together. Dick was a Building Contractor/Electrician and Real Estate Broker. Building many homes/new developments in the Capital District.
In 1980 Dick and Betty moved from Guilderland Center to Naples Florida where Dick built a new home for himself and Betty and helped with the construction of the condominiums at the Bears Paw Country Club also in Naples. They left Florida in 1984 and moved to Columbia, South Carolina where he worked on the new Commissary at Fort Jackson. They returned to Sacandaga Lake in 1985.
Dick's great passions were his family, building, flying his Tri Pacer Piper Cub and traveling.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to Hospice of Saratoga who were so caring and a special thank you to all the staff on the 4th floor Springs at the Wesley. Thank you for your compassion and professionalism in making Dick's life as comfortable as possible.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
