Richard Edward Schmidt Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home on August 7th, 2015, with his loving wife by his side.
The son of John and Alice Rebecca Schmidt, Richard grew up in Albany, NY, graduated from Vincentian Institute High School, and later attended Siena College in Loudonville, NY. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the US Army during the occupation of Japan.
Music was a lifelong passion. Richard performed in both the marching and dance bands at VI, the Siena College Band, the US Army 12th CAV Music Makers and the Yankee Doodle Marching Band.
Richard and his devoted wife, the former Margaret (Peggy) Plew were married for 66 years. The couple lived their entire married life in Latham, NY, making many lasting friends and neighbors. Richard retired from Pitney Bowes after 36 years, after which the couple enjoyed traveling and time spent with family and friends.
Richard was most proud of his children, sons Richard (Anne) and Paul(Kathleen- deceased) Schmidt, and daughters Nancy (Thomas) Barron and Susan Schmidt. Richard also leaves behind his cherished grand children Kathleen (Scott) Pincher, Michael Schmidt, Sarah (Richard) Oettinger and Sean (Jessica) Barron; as well as his beloved great grand children Noah, Jacob and Owen Pincher, and Mackenzie Barron.
Richard was predeceased by his brothers; John and Leonard Schmidt, and is survived by his sister Joan Carroll.
