Richard Gareau, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 77. Born to Alice and Alfred Gareau, Richard was a lifelong resident of Albany, graduating from Cardinal McCloskey High School and Albany Business College. Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force and had a long career with Freihofer's Bakery, later known as Bimbo Bakery, where he worked for over 15 years before retiring. Richard’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his two brothers, Larry and Steve; his four children, Brian (and his wife, Mikayla), Pat, Chris, and Lizzy; and his grandchildren, Evie and Liam, whom he adored. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lynn. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Some of Richard’s best memories were made with his children on camping trips, cookouts, and cheering them on at their sports games. He was always there to support and encourage them. Richard was known for his easy laugh, great sense of humor, and ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him.
