Albany – Richard H. Johnson, 87, passed away Friday July 2, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Albany, a son of the late Joanna and Linus Johnson and was a lifelong area resident. As a young man he worked for the railroad and then served in the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS Bennington. After returning from the war, Richard went to work with New York State Office of General Services where he worked until his retirement in 1985. He was a long time communicant of St. Francis de Sales and loved woodworking, having made furniture for family and friends and even made Toys For Tots for Christmas.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Mary (Pazienza) Johnson, their son Joseph R. (Terry) Johnson, granddaughter Rose M. Johnson and grandson Joseph M. Johnson. He was predeceased by his siblings: Charles, Robert, Siri, Ruth and Elaine.
The funeral service will be Wednesday 9:00 am from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church (formerly St. Francis de Sales) 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
