GUILDERLAND – Richard H. Manss, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Albany and was the son of the late William L. and Ruth (Anderson) Manss. He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952, attaining the rank of AM3 Metal Smith. Richard was a retired Trooper with the NYS Police after 24 years of service; prior to that he was a fire fighter with Albany Engine No. 6. He was a lifelong avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed traveling and going to casinos, and he had an awesome sense of humor that he carried right to the end.
Richard is survived by his loving daughters, Lisa M. (Robert) Vickers, Carole J. (William Gould) Manss, Marie L. (James) Ward, and Jeanne A. (Jay) Pinckney; his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (Charles) DeCitise, Kelly (Heather Miller) Vickers, Amber Bocketti, Matthew Ward, Ali-Marie Pinckney, and Shelby L. Pinckney; his cherished great-grandchildren, Jordan, Olivia, and Noah; his brothers, William (Iona) Manss and Henry (Joan) Manss; his former spouse, Jeanne H. Manss; and his lifelong friend, Don Aveyard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Robert J. Vickers and his longtime companion, Ruth E. Leonard.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will precede the service from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Albany Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
