Richard Austin “Dick” Healy, 90, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, NY, Dick lived a life filled with passion, creativity, and a deep love for family and the outdoors.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, and their six children: Richard Jr., James, Patricia (Jean-Pierre), Catherine (David), Maureen (David), and Christine. Richard was also a cherished grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Alex, Sophia, Vivienne, Christopher, Leo, Natalie, and Nico. He leaves behind a sister, Ellen, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as siblings Leo, Robert, Maureen, John “Jack”, Kathleen, Michael “Kevin”, Patricia, and Rosemary.
He was a talented writer, having published four mystery novels that centered around his beloved Saratoga Springs, NY. Also, an avid skier and member of the US Ski Writers Association, Dick shared his experiences and insights about skiing the Northeast with fellow enthusiasts in his long-running weekly newspaper column. He was also a travel writer and history buff bringing to life places and people in numerous media pieces.
Dick proudly served in the Army during the 1950s and dedicated the majority of his professional life to National Gypsum Corporation until his retirement.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Edwards the Confessor Church, Clifton Park, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethesda House of Schenectady and Shelters of Saratoga.
Richard’s legacy of love, adventure, celebrating others, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
