Colonie - Richard J. Van Wormer , 85, died Monday, February 24. 2014. Born in Albany on October 5. 1928, he was the son of Thomas and Julia (Samajtys) Van Wormer. His wife of 63 years is the former Diane Wells.
He is survived by six children: Margaret M. (Gregory) Wisnewski; Richard R. (Susan) Van Wormer; Edward T. (Marilyn) Van Wormer of Schenectady; Robert A. Van Wormer of Guilderland; Amy D. (Richard) Wood of Esperance and Rose M. Van Wormer of Lake Placid. He is the grandfather of Gary (Jennifer)Van Wormer, Jessica (Chris) Cardinal,Kelly (Nathaniel) Douglas, Joseph Wisnewski and his partner, Christie Malmborg, Tyler (Sharon) Hewitt, Jennifer Wood and Jeffrey Wood. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren; a sister, Carol Rooney of Lewisville, Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings: Thomas, Robert, and Walter Van Wormer and Ursula Beam.
Mr. Van Wormer served in the U.S. Army during WW II and then worked for New York Central Railroad and Consolidated Rail Corporation (CONRAIL) for forty years, retiring in 1990.
Friends are invited and may call at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 607 Central Avenue, Albany. Interment will be in Norton Cemetery, Keene, NY in the spring.
