WYNANTSKILL- Richard J. Vielkind, 53, passed away peacefully on Friday at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born in Troy and is the son of Rosemary (Gummie) Burke Vielkind and the late William Vielkind.
He was employed with CSX Transportation in Selkirk. Rick was an accomplished craftsman. A talented carpenter and builder, Rick was always the first to call when there was a need for repairs or improvements. He could fix anything and was always willing to help anyone in need. Rick was proud of his Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, his dream home built with his own hands and his most precious gift, his endearing grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Vicki; He is the devoted father of Jill (Tommy) Carroll, Jessie (Bryan) Weatherwax, Jenah (Mike)Baker and his honorary daughter Erica Novack. He is the cherished Papa Yay to Satchel and Roscoe Carroll, Adeline and Abram Weatherwax and Kade Baker. He is the brother of Rosanne (Ned) Fitzgerald, Connie Lord, Bob (Sue) Vielkind and the late Donna Flanigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by longtime family friend, Fr. Harry Donaghy.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:30 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Wynantskill where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 pm at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Brookside Ave. Wynantskill. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
