Richard W. Kendall

February 10, 1941 — August 2, 2022

COLONIE - Richard (Dick) W. Kendall, 81, of Latham passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Born in Troy, he was the son of late Herbert and Eva (Zubal) Kendall. He remained surrounded by his loving family up to the last moment of his life.

Athlete, basketball coach, sports enthusiast, mentor, gardener, handyman, sudoku master and so much more, Dick lived life with passionate enthusiasm and loved nothing more than spending time with his children and his grandchildren. Dick was a graduate of Heatley High School and attended the University of North Carolina. He was employed by the State of New York, Supreme Court, Appellate Division until retiring in August 2002.

Raised in Maplewood, Dick lived in Latham for many years. He was the beloved father of Brian W. Kendall (Stacy Hollander) and Carolann Samuels (David K. Samuels). He is the cherished grandfather of Zachary M. Samuels, Maya G. Samuels and Ethan A. Samuels.

With the most infectious laugh, Dick touched the lives of many. Whether he was coaching a CYO basketball team or talking to a stranger, he made the world a kinder place. He found enjoyment in watching basketball, horses, meeting a friend for lunch, his garden, mastering a sudoku puzzle and traveling with his family – but most of all he loved spending time with his children and in particular his three loving grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to his children include his brother, Robert Kendall (Resiha Kendall) of Fairport, NY, nieces Brenda Nelson Alonzo of Troy, NY and Aynsley Kendall of Rochester, NY and his nephew Bruce Nelson of Delanson, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Joan Nelson (Robert Nelson). He is also survived by many other family members and countless friends. Dick will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

A funeral service for family members and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 9th, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie at 1:00 pm.
