Richard L. Fernald

SCHENECTADY –Richard L. "Dick" Fernald, 78, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on August 5, 1934 and was the son of the late Harold and Fannie Fernald.

Dick retired in 1996 from Adam Ross Cut Stone in Albany, where he worked for 42 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan as well as a fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Putnam Pond each summer with his family.

Dick was the beloved husband of Patricia (Huzar) Fernald for over 61 years. He was the proud father of Susan (Lou) Cervoni, Richard M. (Kathy) Fernald, Cynthia Conway and Pamela Fernald. Dick is also survived by son-in-law, Daniel Conway. He was "Poppy" to Kevin (Dawn) Cervoni, Jason (Leslie) Fernald, Lisa (Joe) Cartier, Christopher Conway (Jennifer Bradshaw), and Bryan Conway (fiancée, Allison Liitt). Dick was blessed with four great-grandsons, Lucas, Brayden, Connor and Roman. He will also be missed by his feline companion, Willow. Dick is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sonia (Bob) Retajczyk, Priscilla (Ken) Keefner and Shirley (Joe) DeMartino as well as a niece and several nephews.

The family will always remember the kindness and compassion given to them by the staff of Ellis Hospital A6 wing. They would also like to thank Community Hospice of Schenectady for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
