Richard L. Markes, Jr.

COLONIE – Richard L. Markes, 55, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Albany the son of Joan Markes and the late Richard Markes, Sr., Richie was a lifelong resident of the Village of Colonie.

Richie did two tours in the Army as a Medic. He continued his medical career as a Registered Nurse by working for a number of nursing homes and ending his career with Albany Medical Center with 8 years of service. Richie loved animals, music, gardening, woodworking, cooking and the Harley Rondezvous. He was also a member of the Albany County Fish and Game Club, VFW Post 8692 and the J.F. Zaloga Post 1520.

Richie is survived by his loving wife Patti (Vona) Markes; son David Markes; sister Kim Bartlett; brother Daryl (Nancy) Markes; nephews Jason (Casey) Bartlett, Eric Bartlett, David Vona, Jeffrey Vona and Paul Vona; niece Amy (Ian) Laskowitz; great-nephews and niece Jamie, Jackson and Josie Bartlett; brother in law Paul (Candy) Vona, Arthur Vona and Leonard (Patty) Vona, and sister-in-law Cindi (Allyn) Jones. He also leaves behind his beloved pets Phoenix, Mofo and Pretty Boy.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Memorial calling hours will precede the service from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In place of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 in Richie's name.
