Albany - Richard Lyons, 97, of Albany, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Wilkinsburg, PA, the son of the late William and Ethyll (Capel) Lyons.
Dick graduated from Albany High School and enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He was on board a destroyer escort, the USS Dionne DE-261. He was discharged as a Radioman 1st Class.
Dick attended Siena College and graduated from Skidmore College. He joined the New York Army National Guard and rose to the rank of Brigadier General. He was also retired from the State University Construction Fund. Dick and his wife enjoyed traveling to many Caribbean islands, and spending their winters in Florida. He was always known as a very kind man, with a great since of humor and known in the neighborhood as the "man on the mower". He was a wonderful husband and father and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his two brothers, William, and John and his sister Helen.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Ruth (Stewart), and his three children, Richard (Susan), Robert (Maureen) and Judith. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 10th from 10am-11am, with a service at 11, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, Colonie, New York.
Interment to follow at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont NY.
