Richard L. Mochrie, Sr.

July 11, 1947 — January 11, 2018

Maplewood- Richard L. Mochrie, Sr., 70 passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 11, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born in Albany on July 11, 1947 to the late Frank and Catherine (Schermerhorn) Mochrie.

Rick was a foreman at Albany Steel for over 35 years. Known as a devoted grandfather, Rick enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Ashley.

Rick had two other passions in life. Simply stated, Rick loved the "action". In the 1980's and 90's Rick was known as one of the best "lefties" on the bowling lanes. He could often be found in one of the Capital District bowling alleys with the racing form or betting sheets in his back pocket. Multiple time champion of various bowling tournaments including; King of the Hill, NBA, NEBA and PBA regionals, Rick won at every level of competition. Rick had many 300 games and 800 series before it was a common thing to do. A fierce competitor, Rick was known to take younger bowlers, new to the adult leagues, under his wing and teach them the game. Later in life Rick enjoyed visiting many of the casinos in the Northeast playing his beloved game of craps. He studied it and mastered the strategies of the game, always believing he had the edge.

Rick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose Mochrie. He is also survived by his children, Richard L. Mochrie Jr., Brian K. Mochrie, Stacey L. Mochrie; his granddaughter, Ashley J. Yetto; and several nieces and nephews. Rick was pre-deceased by two brothers, Frank Mochrie Jr. and William Mochrie Sr.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet.
