SLINGERLANDS-Richard O. Lake, 72, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his residence following an illness. Richard was born in Albany, NY the son of the late Otto and Catherine Gaul Lake. He was nominated for the Allstate Soccer team in 1957 for Watervliet High School. Richard enjoyed fishing, baseball and soccer. He was a goalie for the German American Club. Richard was a veteran of the US Army, having served as Military Police in West Berlin, Germany. He was a letter carrier for 45 years with the Albany Post Office.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Trudy (Langill) Lake; their 15 year wedding anniversary would have been July 7, 2013; his son Jeffrey Lake; his step son Nicholas Farrell; his grandchildren Taylor, Alexander, Noah, Gianna, Jack, Declan, and his "best buddy granddaughter" Casey; his sisters Katherine (Otto) and Jayne; his brother Frederick (Nancy); sisters in law Donna (Gary) and Patricia (Richard); brother in law Lawrence; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a grandson Liam and by a brother in law George.
Calling hours will be held from 11 to 1 PM on Monday, June 24, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie with a funeral service to follow at 1 PM.
Interment will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie with military honors.
Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany or to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Richard.
