Richard J. O’Keefe, 85, husband of the late Diane Borst O’Keefe, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2024, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born April 20,1939 in Albany, he was the son of the late John and Vera (Winnie) O’Keefe.

Richard served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. Following his military service, Richard joined the Albany Police Department, serving as a Motorcycle Police Officer and had retired after 34 years as a Detective.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was pre-deceased by his Siblings Mary Jane Mara (Joseph), William O'Keefe (Mildred), Shirley Lanza (Bernard) and Robert O’Keefe (Barbara).

Richard is survived by his daughters, Deborah Ashby and Colleen Schmitz (Thomas); son, Richard O’Keefe; 3 grandchildren, Andrew Ashby, Ryann Ashby and Riley Schmitz.

The family would like express their gratitude to Richard’s caretaker of 4 years, Naz, who loved and cared for him, allowing him to live comfortably in his home like a King.

Services will be held privately. Richard will be laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
