COLONIE – Richard P. Haggerty, Jr., 75, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Richard P. and Rose (Valente) Haggerty, Sr.
Richard attended Cathedral Academy in Albany. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon discharge, Richard joined the IBEW 724 where he was employed as an electrician for 40 years.
Richard is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beth Haggerty; children Richard (Cheryl) Haggerty, III, Patricia (Blake) Still, Leo Haggerty, Michele (Robert) Bell and Theresa (Robert) Blaauboer; siblings Michael (Maureen) Haggerty, Mary Ann (Henry) Rosenzweig, Timothy Haggerty, Jack (Michele) Haggerty and Joseph Haggerty; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his faithful companions Elvis and Gracie.
Richard was also predeceased by his sisters Patricia Haggerty and Joyce Haggerty Carroll.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Americas (formerly St. Patrick's Church), 273 Central Avenue, Albany. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice Inn, 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 or Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society – Cat Health and Welfare, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 in Richard's name.
