Richard J. Rotondaro

COLONIE- Richard J. Rotondaro, 89, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 at his home.

He was born on November 14, 1927 son of the late, Joseph and Domenica (DeFranco) Rotondaro.

He was a Veteran of WWII and Korea serving in the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. During his service he was stationed in Key West Fl. where he was a Control Tower Operator.

He was a proud member of Pat Aiezza Catholic War Veteran's Post and served as Commander for several years.

Richard was employed by the NYS Dept. of Tax and Finance for 42 years. He retired in 1990 as Supervisor of the Mail Center. Richard's expertise in Postal Operations was well recognized within the Postal community. He served on numerous advisory committees within the industry.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, and an adoring Poppy to his grandchildren. He always cherished attending their concerts, plays and sporting events. He enjoyed classical music, and going to concerts with his dear friend, Paul Ritmo, playing golf and was a loyal fan of the NY Yankees. Richard was an avid photographer and for several years, owned and operated a photography business.

Richard was a hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed all facets of home repair. He always had a project he was working on and after his retirement he assisted his son Thomas with his electrical business. He volunteered consistently throughout his life within his church and repairing toys for the Police Athletic League.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret Rotondaro; his children, Edwin (Claire) Rotondaro, John (Laurie) Rotondaro, Thomas (Marisa) Rotondaro; grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Katelyn, Jacqueline, Anthony, Angelia; brothers, Enrico Rotondaro, Joseph Rotondaro and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Richard was predeceased by his brother, Albert and his sisters, Angie, Mary, Emma and Antoinette.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10am at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY 12211. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 4:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery following Mass.

Richard's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Alyssa, Jessica, Kita, Elaine, Cookie and Karmen for their care and compassion.
