Colonie- Richard T. Edwards, 88, surrendered in the arms of the Lord on September 26, 2016, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Richard was born in Albany, NY to the late Charles and Theresa(Kunath) Edwards. He was the step-son of the late Raymond T. Coon. Richard served his county in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Siena with a Master's Degree in accounting. Richard married Jean Marie Alheim in 1956. He worked for New York State Department of Tax and Finance for 40 years, retiring at age 65. Richard was a devout Roman Catholic, serving as an altar boy in his early life. He was most recently a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife Jean, his brother Robert J. Edwards. He is survived by his son Richard M. Edwards and his daughter Diane (Alain) Ethier; his granddaughter Nichole (Jason) Menard; his great-grandchildren: Carson and Rylee Menard; he is also survived by a niece and several nephews.
Another blessing in Richard's life was his devoted friend and companion Audrey Elliott, her sons: Dr. Bradley (Laura) Elliott and Terrance (Carolyn) Elliott; her grandchildren: Jesse (Emily Zartman) Elliott and Christine (Nicholas) Trotta.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, September 29 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 am on Friday, September 30 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Schenectady. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
