COLONIE - Richard M. Taylor, 61, of Colonie died after a long illness on Saturday June 24, 2006 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by his wife and loving family.
Dick was born and raised in the Village of Colonie and recently realized his dream moving back to the Village to enjoy his retirement. Dick joined the Colonie Police Department in 1966 and retired as a Lieutenant after 20 years of distinguished service. After his retirement from the Police Department, Dick was co-owner of Ralph's Tavern in Colonie for 18 years and was also co-founder of Sadie Klutz Restaurant in Albany. He was an avid lover of blues music and enjoyed his annual Delbert McClinton cruise with his wife Coleen. Dick was a graduate of the National FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary V. Walsh and Richard D. Taylor; his brother Thomas J. Taylor and sister in law, Shirley A. Taylor.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Coleen Malloy Taylor; his brother, Daniel G. (Paula) Taylor of Florida, his sister, Corine (Thomas) Quinn of Colonie; nieces, Karen Costello (James), Daryl Resnick (Edward), Kathleen Quinn (Colin), Deborah Conwell (Jeff), Kim Watson (Jody), Pamela Dawkins (Keith), and Susan Gamache (Daniel); Dick was the adored great uncle and Godfather of Brendan "Beaner" Costello. Dick will also be missed by his extended family that includes the community of the Town and Village of Colonie as well as many many lifelong and cherished friends, especially Michael Ruede with whom he enjoyed many Washington Redskins games. Dick was know by so many as a kind, generous, humble man, and one who has touched the hearts of everyone he met.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 8:45 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to Our Lady of Mercy Church at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Colonie PBA, 312 Old Wold Rd.
