Richard Thomas Laing , 84, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015.
He was born in Schenectady, NY, and was the son of the late Edmund and Madeline (Schilling) Laing.
Dick graduated from Scotia High School in 1949 and the General Electric Apprentice Course in 1953. He was a toolmaker and metallurgy specialist who retired in 1987 with 38 years of service as a supervisor at the GE Research and Development Center in the Met Building.
Dick was a Korean War veteran having served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He was stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska.
Upon retirement he reconditioned over 1000 bicycles. He could fix anything mechanical. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing along the Mohawk River.
He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother, Donald in 1945 and his sister, Beverly Parker in 2013.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Jean (Stuart) Laing. They were married on October 30, 1953 in Scotia, NY. Also surviving are three daughters and his son; Terri (Ed) Jasewicz, Donna (Lee) Pitts, Debra Laing and Steven (Kathy) Laing; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a niece and several nephews.
Funeral service will be private per the family's request.
