Richard VanDenHeuvel, 90, of Colonie, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 with loving family by his side.
Devoted husband of Geertruida P. "Trudy" VanDenHeuvel, together they were married 57 years.
Loving father of Rene (Debora) VanDenHeuvel and Anita (Patrick) O'Callaghan.
Cherished grandfather of Jessica VanDenHeuvel and Daniel O'Callaghan.
He is survived by one brother Wilhelmus and three sisters; Bertha, Sophia and Johanna. Richard was predeceased by siblings; Hendrika, Rika, Jacoba, Clasina, Nicolaas, Jacobus, Anna, Maria and Johanna. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Born on March 16, 1928, in Soest, Netherlands Richard was the son of the late Rijk VanDenHeuvel and Sophia (Grift)VanDenHeuvel. He was raised in the Netherlands where he received his education. Richard immigrated to the United States in June of 1961.
Richard was a layoutman and welder for ASISCO, a division of Albany Steel, retiring in
1993 after 31 years of service.
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed woodworking, gardening, being outdoors and camping, (Richard was a Cub Master for the Cub Scouts). Richard's greatest treasure was the time spent with his family, especially traveling and being with his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call 4-8 PM Monday (August 27) at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
