Richard Donald Zink, 78, of Schenectady, formerly of Rensselaerville, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Richard was the son of the late Howard and Catherine (Beagen) Zink, and was the devoted husband to the late Bertha Zink.
Richard served honorably in the US Marine Corps., of which he took much pride in. For over 25 years, he was employed by Albany County and served as CSEA local 801 president for many years. Richard enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting and in his retirement years, he enjoyed pyrotechnics and electronics. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was time most important.
Survivors include in his children Daniel Zink, Elizabeth C. (Steve) Smith, Howard (Jackie) Zink, Valerie (Brian) Morales, his stepchildren; Edward Welsch, Mabel Welsch, James "Tiger" Welsch and Charles "Dusty" (Kim) Welsch. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive, as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, Richard was predeceased by his sister Dorothy "Gish" Boettner, his brothers Howard "Buck" Zink and Francis "Skip" Zink, as well as his stepson Harold Welsch.
Relatives and friends may call 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 7th at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Zink-Welsch Family Cemetery, Rensselaerville.
