Albany- Ricky A. Brown, Sr. "Big Rick", or affectionately known as "G Papa" by his Grandchildren Jai and Mari, of Albany, NY; passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born on April 30, 1961, in Hudson, NY, to Maxine Garriques. He was educated in the Hudson City Public School District. Rick developed an interest and passion for cooking and pursued Culinary Arts, he made the best grilled ham and cheese sandwiches; just one of his many favorite dishes to make. He held various positions around the Capitol Region to include, a Cook, Security Officer, and at St. Peter's Hospital working on Special Projects, where he was responsible for setting up and providing support to all special hospital functions. In his most recent job, he was a Taxi Driver for the Yellow Cab Company.
He was an avid sports fan, and his favorite football team was the Tennessee Titans. He enjoyed talking sports with his son, Marquel and anyone else who would listen. Rick had the gift to gab and an incredible sense of humor! He particularly had a special gift when it came to picking greeting cards; he was very thoughtful and considerate, always careful to put his heart and soul into it and sometimes he took hours to do so. Rick never looked at the cost, it was all about the words and the occasion. He loved to laugh and have fun. His favorite past time was sitting on the porch with his coffee, people watching and being the neighborhood greeter!
He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Moulton, two sons - Ricky A. Brown, Jr. of Suitland, MD, Marquel L. Brown; His mother, Ms. Maxine A. Garriques of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jaida M. Brown, and Marion L. Brown both of Albany, NY. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan M. Brown of Charlotte, N.C., Sharon Brown of Albany, NY. He was the brother-in-law to Cynthia Smalls, Kenneth E. Moulton of New Bern, N.C., Sarah P. Moulton, Bennie E. Moulton, Lorraine Moulton, and Michael Moulton all of Albany, NY.
He was pre-deceased by his loving Grandmother, Sara Sturdivant, Mother-in-law Pearl M. Moulton, his sister, Sandra (Sandy) Brown and a host of aunts and uncles.
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal. Though our hearts are heavy, we know that God knew best. We thank Him for our time together, and we will see each other again. AMEN!
