Guilderland- Rina (given name Tiengthong) P. Amodeo, 50, entered into eternal life on November 19, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Vientiane, Laos on June 10, 1967, she was the daughter of Ms. Nouanpheng Phomsouvanh and the late Mr. Siene Samontry.
Rina, a Laotian refugee, together with her family, in 1978 escaped into the Kingdom of Thailand after the fall of the Kingdom of Laos. She then traveled from the Nong Khai Refugee camp to the USA, arriving in San Francisco, CA in 1979. She attended Hawthorne Elementary School, Westlake Junior High School and Fremont Highschool in Oakland, CA. She then moved to Tucson, AZ where she attended the Job Corps and completed training in 1986 in the Electronic Assembly program. Rina then worked for IBM in Tuczon, AZ, until relocating to the New York mid-Hudson Valley, and eventually moved to the New York Capital District where she was employed by Price Chopper for more than 20 years.
Rina was a kind, loving person and had the most beautiful heart. She had the ability to make lasting friends wherever she went. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all.
Wife of Anthony J. Amodeo, Jr., whom she married on
September 24, 1994 at St. Mary's Church in Marlboro, NY; mother of Gerard (Tosha) C. Sorrentino, Jr.; grandmother of Cecelia A. Sorrentino and Luciano G. Sorrentino. Rina is also survived by her sister, Phitsamay (Pheng) Ly, her brother Mien Phomsouvanh, her niece Melanie and her nephews Tommy, Bobby and Jimmy. She was predeceased by her brother Phonethip Phomsouvanh.
A Catholic funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 26 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Visitation will follow to 5 pm. Interment will be at 12 noon on Monday, November 27 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, US-9W, Town of Newburgh, NY.
