LOUDONVILLE – Rita Eaton Allen, 97, passed away on October 31, 2015.
The daughter of Alan and Helen Barron Eaton, Rita was born in Midland, Ontario, Canada in 1918. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1936 and attended college at SUNY Oneonta. She retired in 1980 as a designer draftsman in the Gas Turbine Division of GE. After spending 17 years in Williamsburg, Virginia, she returned to the area in 2000, living in the Stockade for several years before moving to Loudonville.
She will be remembered for her kindness and creativity, her love of animals, classical music and history. The unconditional support she provided for all her family and friends will not be forgotten. She made us all feel like we could accomplish anything we tried and was the eternal optimist. She faced every challenge with class and grace. She traveled well into her nineties, enjoying time in California and on the Massachusetts coast.
She was predeceased by her husband George; sister, Margaret Clapper; and brothers, John and Robert Eaton. She is survived by a daughter, Wendy Allen; grandson, Alexander Clarey; sister, Sarah Scott; a Norwegian extended family; and many nieces, nephews, Canadian cousins and long time family friends.
Burial will be private at her request. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date and requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations in her name can be made to WMHT or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
