Rita E. Hackney

COHOES – Rita E. Hackney, 88, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecile Richard.

Rita was a true social butterfly and enjoyed attending family gatherings and parties. She was a longtime member of the "Card Club," who were known more for chit-chatting than playing cards. Rita was an avid Mystery and Romance reader and also enjoyed watching Guiding Light and General Hospital. Although she never learned to drive, Rita always found a way to get around town, whether walking or taking the bus; She even managed to make her way to the Navy Reunion in San Diego by herself, after her husband George passed away. Rita also loved shopping - something she always wanted to do after her Chemo treatments.

Along with her parents and husband, George D. Hackney, she was also predeceased by 2 of her sisters.

She will be missed by her children, George J. (Karen), Margaret (Kenneth) and Daniel; sisters Helen and Gertrude; grandchildren George M., Kenneth and Christopher; great granddaughter Laura Jane and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:30 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford.
