COHOES- Rita M. Johnson, 84, of Cohoes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 19, 2010 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Peter and Hannah Burnetter. Rita was employed as Senior Identification Clerk with New York State Department of Criminal Justice for 25 years, retiring in 1986. She served two terms as President of her local CSEA Chapter.
She was predeceased by her son Robert A. Johnson and her siblings, Joseph, Peter, Francis, John, James, Thomas, Vincent, Marie and Elizabeth.
Rita is the beloved wife of 66 years to Donald Johnson. She is the devoted mother of Donald (Mary) Johnson of Colonie, Susan (Ronald) Goldfarb of Albany, Patricia Johnson Doyle of Loudonville and Gail (Thomas) Desrosier of Connecticut. She is also survived by 9 cherished grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 9:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill at 10:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
