TROY – Robert A. Klein, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Binghamton, he was the son of the late Robert and Sophie Klein.
Robert grew up in Colonie and graduated from Roessleville High School in 1940. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts. Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, he also graduated from the New York State Ranger School in 1943. In 1946, he married Andreé P. Gallet in Rheims, France. Robert was a member and officer of the Latham Circle Squares and advisor to the YMCA Indian Guide Program. He retired from the Keebler Co. with 35 years of service as a truck driver. He loved square dancing, reading, the outdoors, playing pool and trips to Wanakena.
Along with his parents, Robert was predeceased by his son, Alwin.
He is survived by his wife, Andreé; children John (Linda) Klein, Robert (Sandy) Klein, Chantale (Peter) Connelly, Andrew (Karen) Klein, Claudine (Wendy Hand) Klein, Elizabeth (Tom Breunig) Klein, Daniel (Pat) Klein, Michelle (Greg) Hinman, and Paulette (Joseph) Monaco; daughter-in-law Gail Klein; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm with a brief service to follow at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to any library in the Capital District or the NYS Rangers School, Ranger School Road, Wanakena, NY 13695, in Robert's name.
