July 29, 1927 — November 15, 2013

COLONIE - Robert A. Radler, 86, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Guilderland Center Nursing Home.

Born July 29, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Southern New Jersey, he was the son of the late Fred and Ethel Radler. Educated in Camden and Collingswood, NJ schools, Bob graduated from Collingswood High School in 1945. Following two years of service with the U.S. Coast Guard, he was employed by the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines railroad until 1964 when he was appointed Railroad Service Agent for Interstate Commerce Commission's Albany office. With his family, Bob moved from Westmont, NJ to Albany in 1964. He held the position as Railroad Service Agent until being appointed ICC District Supervisor in 1974. With the closing of the field office in 1979, Bob became the Railroad Safety Inspector with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration at Albany when he served until his retirement from government service in October 1989. He then performed Accident Investigation and Hazardous Materials Compliance consulting service for several railroads. Bob was also active in the New York State Operation Lifesaver Program.

During his free time, Bob enjoyed entertaining friends and other Good Sam members with his organ and piano music; working with his computers (and helping friends with computer problems) and traveling cross country with his wife and grandchildren in their motor home. He was a Life Member of Colonie Elks Lodge #2192; served as an officer for nine years as Organist and Americanism Chairman, and was a long time worker on the Bingo team. In connection with travel, he served as Treasurer for the New York State Good Sam Organization and performed charity work for Camp Good Days and Special Times, CP and Special Olympics.
Bob will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Teresa C. Radler; son Robert A. (Kathleen) Radler, Jr., of Blue Mountain Lake, NY; daughter Teresa E. (Burton) Segel of Colonie; Grandchildren Mark (Jodi) Radler, Anthony Radler, Robby (Nicole) Radler and Eric McArdle; great-grandchildren Cooper, Anna and Eva, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
