Robert Joe Alexander, affectionately known as "Bobby Joe" entered the joy of the Lord on October 1, 2021. Born November 11, 1938, he was the fourth of five children born to the late Willie Guy Alexander, Sr. and Odessa Foster Alexander.
Bobby Joe was educated in the Lancaster County Public School system where he was a bone bruising tackler on the high school football team. He left Lancaster at an early age and moved to Albany, NY in search of a more productive lifestyle. Bobby Joe's favorite pastime was traveling and spending time with family and friends. He truly loved his family!
Bobby Joe married the late Ernestine Mays. Their union was blessed with two children: daughter, Barbara Ann Alexander and son, Vinson M. Alexander of Atlanta, GA.
Bobby Joe loved to talk. He never met a stranger and he would strike up a conversation with any and everybody. He enjoyed sports, especially tennis and football. Although he lived in New York, he loved the Washington Football Team.
His accomplishments, memories, and accolades will be cherished by his son, Vinson (Stene), granddaughters: Crystal and Azariah; great-grand son, Robert; stepchildren: Edward Totten, Lithonia, GA and Ronald (Damaris) Totten, Lilburn, GA; brother, Richard (Ruth) of Bowie, MD; sister, Emily Phifer of Lanham, MD; lifelong friend, Ms. Geraldine Thompson; sister-in-law Ms. Elsie Alexander, of Albany, NY, an extraordinary niece, Geraldine "Dina" Alexander of Albany, NY and many more relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bobby Joe was preceded in death by two daughters: Barbara Ann Alexander and Swanzetta Sanders; stepson, Larry Fluker; two brothers: Willie Guy Alexander, Jr. of Aiken, SC and Clarence Edward Alexander, Sr. of Albany, NY.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 58 Alexander St, Albany, NY. An hour of visitation will be held from 10am to 11am until the service.
