SCHENECTADY – Robert B. Wilber Sr., 85, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Mount Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born on May 8, 1923 in Saratoga Springs and was the son of the late Edward and Henrietta (Ovitt) Wilber. He served in the US Army during WWII, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a carpenter with Local Union 370 in Albany for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, horseshoes and spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary L. (Faulkner) Wilber; his children, Judy (Bill) Rock of Hudson Falls, Barbara Goodrich of Schenectady, Robert B. (Donna) Wilber Jr. of Rotterdam; his sisters, Rose Mason, Shirley Johnson, and Constance Demetko; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Liz Fendrick, Betty Camadine, Vi Wacksman, Pearl Parker, Rita Childers, Ruth Baldwin, Joyce Dowen, and Irene Brooks and his brother, Edward Wilber.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt.155-south of Central Ave.). A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stratton VA Medical Center 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Robert B. Wilber Sr.
