Robert E. Cardinal

Guilderland- Robert E. Cardinal, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on August 27, 2018. The son of the late Edward and Margaret (Palmer) Cardinal, Bob was born on February 20, 1940 in Rensselaer, NY. He served his country honorably and faithfully in the National Guard. Bob pursued a career in construction and was a member of the Local Carpenters Union. He then went on to become a Building Inspector for the Town of Guilderland, retiring in 2007. Throughout his life he was involved in the Fort Hunter Fire Department, NYS Building Officials Conference and the Guilderland Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #2480, where he was Exalted Ruler from 1997-98.

He enjoyed boating and camping in the Adirondacks at Nacodi Campground in Lake Pleasant. He also looked forward to taking cruises to the Caribbean.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Margaret (Peggy) Cardinal; daughter, Susan Yale of Midlothian, VA; sons: Robert (Maureen) Cardinal of North Merrick, NY, Edward (Lisa) Cardinal of East Greenbush, NY and James (Jill) Cardinal of Slingerlands, NY; step-daughters: Kelly (Erick) Rafferty of Colonie, NY and Michelle (John) Cosselman of Niskayuna, NY; grandchildren: Ashley Cardinal, Alyssa (Aldo) Hansen, Gregory Anslow, Erin Cardinal, Anthony Cardinal, Mark Yale, Seth Yale, Benjamin Cardinal and Peyton Cardinal; step-grandchildren: Erin Rafferty, Lauren Cosselman and Nicholas Cosselman; great-granddaughter, Harper Hansen and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob has been reunited with his faithful companion, Dusty.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, August 30 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31 at 10 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to The American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Ln, Latham, NY 12110.
