Schenectady- Robert (Bob) Carlson, 75, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 6, 2005, after a long illness. Born October 21, 1929, in Troy, NY, Bob was the son of the late George and Germaine (Hatton) Carlson. Formerly of Rensselaer Avenue, he lived most of his life in Schenectady. A student at Draper School and veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Bob worked for the Otis Elevator Company for 40 years. Bob's job with Otis as an elevator service mechanic brought him to all of the major institutions of Schenectady- Wallace Co., Carl Co., Ellis and St. Clare's hospitals, the County Office Building and County Jail, Schenectady Police Station and Schenectady Chemicals. He was commonly referred to as "Mr. Otis". Bob was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #35. Bob is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law George and Mary Jane Carlson.
Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years Barbara (McFarland) Carlson, two daughters; Roberta "Bert" Carlson (Pat Cain) of Schenectady, and Robin Carlson (Shows Leary) of Colonie. He is also survived by his sisters; Vivian (James) Anderson, Gerri (Raymond) Dagostino and Joann Carlson, sister-and brother-in-law Patricia and George Endries, dear friend and neighbor Beatrice Knotek and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A special place in "Bobby's" life and heart was held for the past nine years by Cheyenne and Cody Redmond Seel. They brought him much joy and laughter in these difficult years of his life.
The Carlson family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Schenectady Dialysis Center, Ellis and St. Clare's hospitals, Northwoods Rehabilitation Center, Kingsway Arms Nursing Home, the staff and drivers at Catholic Charities Transportation Program, Niskayuna/Grand Blvd. Ambulance, and Rotterdam Paramedics and Ambulance for all their care and support.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10th at 10:00 AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. The family has requested that no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to Catholic Charities Transportation Program, 1400 Dunnsville Rd., Suite G, Schenectday, NY 12306, or to the Carmelite Monastery, 428 Duane Ave., Schenectady, NY 12304.
