Robert Curtis

November 14, 1956 — March 15, 2013

Curtis, Robert Stephen
ALBANY—Robert Stephen Curtis, 56, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2013 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 14, 1956 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of Richard L. Curtis and Dianne Savage Curtis. He was a graduate of Fort Edward High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from SUNY Brockport. Bob retired in September from the New York State Department of Transportation after 20 years, where he worked in the Office of Transportation Policy, Planning and Performance as an Associate Transportation Analyst. Previously, he was employed at Sear Brown Associates in Rochester as a Transportation Specialist.
Bob was fun-loving, intelligent, kind and had a great sense of humor. He was a man of great passion and enthusiasm, whether watching sports, skiing, reading, arguing about politics or attending concerts and music festivals. He was a fan of baseball (New York Yankees), college basketball (Notre Dame and St. John's), football (Notre Dame and the Cleveland Browns) and soccer.
Bob loved spending time at his family's camp at Brant Lake in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed taking ski trips to Vermont, and many weekends were spent in Lake Placid, skiing by day and relaxing with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon or pint of Guinness at night.
Bob was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. His nieces and nephews called him "Uncle OK" because he never said "no" no matter how many times he was asked to play a game or watch a movie. He enjoyed music—the Grateful Dead, Irish music and jazz—and went to as many live concerts as he could talk his sometimes not-as-enthusiastic wife into attending.
Bob endured ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) with a quiet dignity, a positive attitude and a great appreciation for his caregivers and helpers. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, neighbors and colleagues at DOT.
Bob is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lyn; mother Dianne Curtis of Fort Edward; brothers Rick of Fort Edward; Ron of Brant Lake; sister Mary (Bernie) of Lake Placid and Hudson Falls; aunts and uncles Bob and Carm Savage of Yorktown Heights and Don and JoAnn Curtis of Fort Edward; father-in-law Jack McNulty and his wife Barbara of Crystal River, FL; cousins Bob (Eileen) Savage of Eastchester, Tracy (Matt) Bassett of Syracuse; Ricky Savage of Mahopac; Jeff (Mary) Curtis of Fort Edward and Joanie (George) Ells of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law Beth (Jeff) Alquist, of West Hartford, CT; brother-in-law David (Phyllis) McNulty of Jupiter, FL; nieces and nephews Scott (Kimberly) Curtis of Lake George; Sean McNulty of Jupiter, FL; Clare and Laura Mullaney of Randolph, NJ; and Janet, Meghan and Carolyn Alquist of West Hartford, CT.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Rich Curtis and his cousin, Don Curtis, Jr.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roberta Miller and Kim McClintock, RN at St. Peter's ALS Regional Center and the staff on C-4 at Albany Medical Center.
Special thanks to caregivers Scott Curtis, Kimberly Wattendorf, Ron Curtis, Rick Curtis, Mary Curtis, Bernie Lukaszewicz, Jeff and Beth Alquist, Marcus Bautista, Shawn and Kathy Hughes, Bill and Terry Mullaney, Ethan and Kris Hartenberg, Mike and Laura Agresta, Scott Garrison and neighbors Chris Bouchard, Ellin Luft, Mary O'Connor, John and Karen Reilly and Jeff and Lisa Benson.
