Robert E. Finning

COLONIE - Robert E. Finning, 69, of Colonie passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Ralph and Marie (DeGroot) Finning.
Robert had a love for sports, especially for the Boston Red Sox and took enjoyment in meeting local firefighters and going on outings with his "group" from the Capital Region D.D.S.O. Robert worked for the State of New York and then the Workshop in Menands.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by maternal grandparents William and Mary DeGroot; lifelong care giver and aunt Evelyn DeGroot and aunt Dorothy Zenzen.
He leaves behind his brother Gary (Sheila) Finning; cousin Stephen (Tammy) Zenzen; nephew Chad Finning and niece Amber Alexander, along with a great-nephew and great-niece.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Community Hospice Inn and the Intensive Care Unit of St. Peter's Hospital for their compassion and caretaking of Robert during his last days.
A funeral service for Robert will be held on Monday at 12:30 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Robert's name are invited to donate to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
