WEST ALBANY - Robert E. King, 87, went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2010. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley King; his children James King (Kieran), Barbra Witt (Gary), Robert King (Late RaeAnn), Donald King (Janine), and Mark King (Diana). Bob is also survived by beloved grandchildren: Jennifer, Davia, Christopher (Kyle), Matthew, Jared (Sarah), Adrienne, Ryan, Joshua, Valerie, David, and Amanda; great grandchildren: Falynn, Collin, Nathan, Jordan, Selah, and Kailyn; and great-great granddaughter Raechel.
Bob was a life-long resident of West Albany. After graduating from Albany High School in 1941, he started a family turkey business which helped sustain his family when he entered military service in 1943. Bob answered the call of his country, serving in the US Army during WWII. His military service took him to Washington State, serving in Battery D, 202nd Coastal Artillery Battalion; Adak, Alaska, just after the Battle of Dutch Harbor. While serving at Adak, he attended S-2 Army Intelligence School. In Aug 1944, his unit was moved to Attu, Alaska to provide anti-aircraft protection to the air field on Attu. In preparation for being shipped to the European theater, he attended Advanced Infantry Training at Camp Maxey, Texas. He was discharged in February 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey then serving with the 768th Anti Aircraft Battalion.
After his military service, Bob was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, retiring after 36 years.
Bob was a member of Pineview Community Church and supported the good works of the Church and the Capital City Rescue Mission…." For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Hebrews 13:5.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:00 at Pineview Community Church, 251 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden.
