Colonie- Robert E. Stewart, 88, of Forest Drive, Village of Colonie, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.
Robert was born on, 30 June 1928, at Elmira, NY, the son of the late Richard E. Stewart and Mary H. (O'Connor) Stewart- Stanley. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard B. Stewart of Rochester, NY, Edward Stewart of Batavia, NY and his sister Virginia M. Stewart of Olean, NY.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in meteorology before and at the beginning of the Korean War- including tours of duty in Greenland and the U.S. Army Artillery Center, Fort Sill, Oklahoma- preparing weather data for the Air Force and the Army Artillery.
He was a graduate from Bolivar, NY High School during 1936, and Tri-State College, Angola, Indiana 1953- receiving a BS Degree in Civil Engineering. He also attended the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY.
For several decades he was employed as a Building Structural Engineer at the New York State Department of Public Works- Division of Architecture , and also at the NY State Office of General Services- Design and Construction Group, Albany, NY- as a licensed Professional Engineer. He was a member of the State Architects Golf League. Retirement was during March of 1991.
Robert was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, as a descendant of Jabez Elwell of Bennington, VT. Jabez Elwell was a soldier under General George Washington during the American Revolution. Robert was a member of ADK- the Adirondack Mountain Club. He enjoyed hiking in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains with family and club members.
He is predeceased by Norma G. (Fancher) Stewart- his beloved wife of 64 years. Together they are survived by their five children: David B. Stewart (Janice), Kathryn R. Panzarella (Carl), Thomas G. Stewart (Elizabeth), Christine A. Stewart and Julia D. Dillon (Jim). Robert also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 9:30am at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
