Robert James Ensign, Sr.

Colonie - Robert James Ensign, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021. Robert was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (Sill)Ensign. Robert was the devoted husband to Maureen (Myrtle) Ensign. They were married 57 years.

After his time honorably serving in the Army in Germany, Robert owned and operated various automotive repair facilities in the Greater Albany Area. He was a lifetime member of the Latham Fire Department, he was also Captain of the North Colonie Ambulance Squad and was the catalyst of creating the Town of Colonie's Emergency Services. Bob was a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga VFW Post as well as volunteering in different capacities for many organizations throughout his life. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing and being the life of the party.

Bob is survived by his children, Robert (Donna) Ensign, Jr., Thomas (Diane) Ensign, Sr., and James Ensign; his grandchildren, Thomas, Jr., Brittany, Eric and Amber; and many loving relatives and friends.

Bob is predeceased by his siblings, Thomas Ensign, Elizabeth Ensign Doherty, and Diana Ensign Benoit.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 7:00 pm . Interment will be held in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
