Robert F. Elze

Robert F. Elze, 81, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013, in the arms of his loving wife Betty at the Hospice Inn of St. Peters Hospital. Bob was born in Albany, was the son of the late George and Irene (Conlin) Elze. He graduated from Albany High School and Attended HVCC and NYS Excelsior College. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1950 to 1953. He had been a claim manager for Transamerica insurance and retired from the NYS Dept. of Law Attorney Generals Office. Bob was a member of the Bethlehem American Legion and N.E. NY Chapter Korean War Veterans Association as well as the 5th Regimental Combat Team association. He served as an usher at the Historic St. Mary's Church in downtown Albany. In addition to his parents Bob was predeceased by his brother, Edward; his sister-in-law Margaret Leyden and brother-in-law James Coleman.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Coleman) Elze; his sister Catherine (Betty) Tobin; sister-in-law Agnes Elze; brother-in-law Ronald (Mary Ann) Coleman; sister-in-law Margaret Coleman; his nephew John (Kathleen) Tobin, as well as several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, plus his extended Hawaiian family.

A memorial graveside service will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville NY.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital PO Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. Parkinson Plaza, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305, in Bob's memory.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
