It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert P. Ferrell on Sunday, December 3, 2023 after a courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer.
A lifelong resident of Colonie, Robert graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1976, going on later in life to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Empire State College. He further went on to earn his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Ellis College, New York Institute of Technology in 2009.
He spent the last 26 years working for Bryant & Stratton College in Albany. He began his career in 1997 as a business instructor, but spent most of his tenure as the Director of Admissions. Recently, he became the Director of High School & Athletics Admissions.
The passionate man that he was held true not only in his personal life but professional life as well. He truly loved his job, always striving to be the very best. Over the years he touched the lives of many, and was a mentor to many as well. He always took great pride in whatever he was able to accomplish. His heart, along with his drive, ethics and the ability to make things happen, ensured his students would receive the education they wanted and the degree they deserved. He encouraged others with a quote from Jim Valvano and one which he lived by, "Don't Give Up. Don't Ever Give Up".
In the Summer months he would always be outside tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed an occasional cigar and a glass of bourbon on the patio. When he wasn't outdoors, you could find him in his "man cave" cheering on or yelling at the New York Rangers and New York Giants. Christmas was his favorite time of year. He loved decorating outside and spent hours doing it.
Robert leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Deborah Ferrell and two daughters he adored, Allyson Ferrell and Lindsay Montarello. He is predeceased by his parents Jean and Kenneth Ferrell, sister Debi Cummings and nephew Zachariah Ferrell-Popson. He is also survived by sisters, Vicki Popson and Christina Ferrell as well as many relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm with a memorial service to immediately follow at 3:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
