Robert Eugene Gray

Robert Eugene Gray, Jr., 61, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at home.

Rob was born on June 19, 1955 son of Robert E. Gray, Sr. and JoAnn (Simpson) Gray in Kannapolis, NC.

Rob or "Genie", as he was affectionately known, moved with his parents to NYC shortly after his birth. He and his 5 siblings were raised in Midtown Manhattan. He graduated from Brandise High School in New York, NY. He was a talented athlete and was recognized in basketball and also track. He raised his older children for several years in NYC where he worked in the stocking and receiving industry for several years.

He and his children later relocated to the Albany area and he began working at BJ's Wholesale and later at SUNY Albany. After relocating to the Albany area he met his beloved companion Nancy and together they raised their 2 children.

Rob is survived by his children, Stephanie Gray, Teresa (Earl) Gray-Alford, Robert (Brenda) Gray III and their mother, Roberta Archer. His beloved companion of 20 years, Nancy Thurber and their children, James Gray and Charlene Gray; his mother, JoAnn Gray; siblings, Michael Gray, Karen Gray, Cheryl (Todd) Gray-Rogers, Lisa (Vince) Gray-Clarke; grandchildren, Robyn, Regine, Jasmine, Tia, Terri, Sean, Heaven, Talea, Eric, Se'nya, DeShawn, Dharnell, Winter, Fabian, Joe and 4 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Leelay, Madorie, Izzy; nieces & nephews, CheLisa, DeSandra, Kallen, Allan II, Joi, Todgea, Taylor Blue, Maya, Shane and Matthew and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rob was predeceased by his father, Robert Eugene Gray, Sr.; and brother, Charles Gray.

A home going celebration for Rob will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4-6pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
