SARASOTA, FL - Robert H. Dowse, 89, formerly of Albany, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in Sarasota Florida.
Bob was born on May 28, 1922 in Albany, NY; Bob was the son of the late George W. Sr. and Anna M. (Day) Dowse and brother of the late George W. Dowse Jr. and Dorothy Carlin.
Bob served his country in World War II, enlisting into the United States Navy the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a signal man on the U.S.S. Starlight #AP-175. After the war, he was then employed as a truck driver for Vogel and later by Red Star Express. Bob later became a member of the Teamster's local 294 and the Elk's Club of Colonie for 42 years, retiring in 1984. He resided in the Albany, Colonie, East Berne area before moving to Sarasota, Florida.
Bob loved camping, many long distance family vacations, and belonged to the Capital District Trailer Club. He later moved his trailer to Camp Woodstock (East Berne, NY) for summers in NY. Bob had a gift for talking, humor and laughter. He also was an outgoing, non-judgmental, kind and gentle man right to his passing.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean H. (Yaggle) Dowse; his children, Robert R. Dowse, Roger (Anita) Dowse and Cinde Hoffman; his grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Hoffman, Stacy (Scott) McBain, Christopher (Lynne) Dowse, Gavin and Briea Dowse, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 510 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Following the burial there will be a lunch at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
