Robert L. Hough

May 22, 1945 — October 24, 2022

Schaghticoke - Robert "Bob" L. Hough, son of the late Lyle and Theresa (Ellis) Hough, died on Monday, October 24, 2022, suddenly at home with his wife at his side. He was 77.

Born in 1945 in Bergen County, New Jersey, Bob was the third child in a family of six siblings with whom he remained close over the years. When the Vietnam Draft came calling, Bob was enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served for two years. Shortly after his discharge from the USMC, he met the woman who would become his wife, Sue Maxwell. He worked hard to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Empire State College at this time as well.

Bob and family would come to settle in Goshen, New York, and remained there until Bob retired from his long-held position as Computer Analyst for Orange & Rockland Utilities in Spring Valley, New York. Bob loved to coach youth soccer and coached countless children over the years, including his own four kids. In 2009, Bob and Sue moved northwards to Schaghticoke, where Bob soon found joy working with children at his part-time job at Liberty Ridge Farm.

There was truly no one like Bob; he worked and played hard, but also believed strongly in the importance of naps. A perpetual child at heart, Bob loved nothing more than to spend time with children playing, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was so silly and never took life too seriously. He was also first to jump at the chance to help anybody: friend, family, or stranger and loved to help fix things. He made friends wherever he went. In addition to working, playing, and exploring outside, Bob enjoyed spending quiet time working on jigsaw puzzles, reading, and watching the Jets and the Yankees on TV.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Sue (Maxwell) Hough, his four children, Robert Jr, William, and Theodore Hough, and Rebecca (Ralph) DeJesus, his grandchildren, Sydney, Henry, Benjamin, and Charlotte, and many extended family members and friends. He will be deeply missed.
