SELKIRK – Robert J. Campbell Sr., 84, died on Wednesday January 12, 2011. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late John and Edna Doolittle Campbell.
Bob was a veteran of WWII having proudly served his country in the US Army, 786th Tank Battalion, and European Theatre under General Patton. Prior to his retirement at age 78, Bob was a driver education teacher at the Glenmont Job Corp for 25 years. He had previously owned his own driving school. Bob was an excellent teacher and received many letters of achievement for his hard work and dedication to his many students.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley Murray Campbell; his children, Cathy (Brendan) Lawlor, Lynn Campbell and Robert J. (Cheryl) Campbell Jr.; his sister, Lois (Roger) Sanford. He is the cherished grandfather of Brianne (Robert) Fredericks, Brendan (Corinne) Lawlor, Keriann Campbell and Robert J. Campbell III. Great grandfather of Kayleigh Austin, Elisa Austin, Delaney Fredericks and Charles "C.J." Althieser. He also leaves his canine companions, Josie and Rylee. Bob had many friends and those who knew him, loved him.
The family wishes to thank Nancy Jane Batten, Dr. Phillips, Linda and Kelly at the VA Hospital for all of their compassion and dedication while Bob was ill.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A service with military honors and in celebration of Bob's life will be held at 4:30 on Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Hospital, Hospice Unit, 113 Holland Ave. Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Robert J. Campbell Sr.
