EAST GREENBUSH – Robert J. Myers, 80, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family.
Bob was born on July 13, 1928 in West Albany and was the son of the late Louise (Einzig) and Joseph V. Myers. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was the proud owner of a Colonie/West Albany landmark – Myers Meat Market in West Albany with his father from the early 1940's until 1980. He later retired from the Albany County Highway Department. Bob loved fishing and collecting Department 56 Christmas Villages. He was a lifetime NY Yankee fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and entertaining them with exotic foods and great stories.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Geraldine K. (Taggart) Myers after 54 years of marriage. Bob leaves behind a loving family, his daughters, Kathleen Diaz (Roy Mosley) of Syracuse and Cynthia Rosano (Gregory) and his son, Timothy Myers (Jacque) of East Greenbush; his grandchildren, Christopher Diaz (Anna), Jessica Tremblay (Eric) and Jason Diaz, Nicole and Brittany Rosano, Sara and Angela Nygren and Colin Myers; his great grandson, Francesco Diaz. He was the loving brother of Shirley Lilienthal and Rodney (Shirley) Myers. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Clarence Eckert, Dorothy and John Hudson and "Corky" Lilienthal.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Monday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Francis de Sales Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
